i think its very usefull. i use google desktop on my comp n i find it really easy to launch files n even programs.. now i rarely go to my computer n browse thro da files cos all i hav to do is press ctrl twice n type da first few letters of da file or prog that i want n select from the list... its really that simple not to mention the various gadgets that can be used with da sidebar.. (u can put jokes. news, weather n various other useful stuff)..

As for the privacy concerns, i kno that it is a risk but you can choose wat files to be included for indexin so basically u get to choose wat files u want to b able to search for.... but then there is allways da chance of google usin that private data to help them provie 'better' search results...

It depends on you, the user, to decide whether providing full-text search on email is a security threat or not. If you think there is, you can always disable email search.
