period of leaving notice? I work at Oxfordshire County Council in the UK, I'm still in probation and my contract requires 1 month leaving notice. Nothing will "happen" but you might not get a very good reference.Its ludicrous to suggest that you would have to pay the money you would earn if you stayed! I think the first answerer doesn't know what she's talking about! No way in hell would that be legal.
