Default what happens when an immigration hold is...
...placed on an inmate? my husband is in county jail at the moment, his released date is set for the end of august. He has an immigration hold, so i would like to know what happens when he is released from the county jail?

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be notified when it is time for his release. ICE can then come pick him up and process him, advise the jail they have no interest in him right now, or do nothing at all, in which case the jail will release him.ICE doesn't deport every single person being held for criminal charges. They can't. But I would definately confer with an attorney specializing in immigration, especially if you are here with a green card or a US citizen.

Hopefully he will be directed to a tranport van and sent back to his country. We already have enough legal criminals we dont need any illegal ones.

I recently went though this. Once he is released INS will come and pick him up and bring him to a holding jail somewhere. It may not be close at all. then in about 2-3 weeks they will deport him. While he is being held they do medical workup on him and when they are finished is when they take them back. Sorry.
