Default Is it a lie to get interviewed for a job and then...

...be told there are no more positions available? A while back i was interviewed by Sears for a sale position when I was only 16. After being interviewed for Fitness and Equipment and feeling good about it, the man interviewing me showed me the area he said i would work in, and he asked me if i was interested. I told him i was absolutely interested, so once we got back to his office he told me to have a seat, and after leaving for about 5 minutes he came back and told me he was sorry and that there were not positions available.

So... do you think the man who interviewed me lied, or do they usually interview people for a position that is not available? I am interviewing tomorrow (about a year later from when i originally interviewed), and i would just like to know how to feel going into this interview... did i mess something up the first time or was there really a lack of openings? they had a now hiring sign..

It sounds like there was a "potential opening," meaning they were anticipating someone leaving, and he found out rather suddenly that that wasn't happening. If the HR guy was interested enough in you to take the tour, and since they called you for another interview, you obviously have some employable qualities. Go in there with a positive attitude, eager to actually provide service with competence and courtesy, and if you don't get the job, they really don't have something available. Also, keep in mind that you aren't just interviewing for this job, you're also interviewing for something else that may come up.

Well, not that you weren't qualified because I'm sure you were but interviewers do lie. It could be that you are overqualified and are deserving of more money than they are willing to pay, or it could be another reason. But they will make up a "good" excuse to get rid of you. Just do your best tomorrow and don't take it too seriously. If this one isn't it, the right job will come along.

when the interviewer left you for a few minutes, he was prbaly talking with his manager about the decision. most likely, your interviewer's manager told him not to hire you for some reason. he most likely didn't lie since he did take the time to interview you.

If you're looking for a job in the finance industry, then it's important to understand insurance and how it - along with other things - contributes to healthy saving accounts balances. Whether you're looking for breakdown cover or wanting to compare home insurance, insurance is one of those things that - when it comes to an accident or something similar - will prevent you from having to scout the market for the best loans to pay off repair/accident fees.
