THE COMPANY & SITUATION:
The private sector partner to an organisation dedicated to regenerating primary healthcare facilities in deprived areas requires a Chief Executive Officer. This is a high-profile position in which you would play an autonomous leadership role in driving a business forward and giving strategic direction to a LIFT company. “LIFT” in this context stands for Local Improvement Finance Trust and is a vehicle for improving and developing frontline primary and community healthcare facilities.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The essential experience required for this post is as follows:
• Experience of working with the Healthcare Sector
• A detailed working knowledge of the Public Sector, ideally the NHS in the area of Primary Care service delivery, if not then Public Sector areas such as Local Authority, PFI/PPP, Social Housing, Accommodation and Regeneration.
• Absolutely key is the ability to build relationships at Chief Executive and Board Level and a track record of building partnerships with diverse clients. In this role the incumbent does not have the luxury of dealing with one client at a time; he/she is dealing with several at once and is required to build strategic partnerships with them at a senior level.
• Experience of running a medium-sized business including full financial management, P&L responsibility, Balance Sheet, etc.
• A high degree of intellect with the ability to think flexibly and understand a number of diverse areas of activity and business which, whilst not necessarily requiring and in depth knowledge of all areas of activity, need to be cohesively managed.
• The ability to achieve results through influencing others who are not necessarily under the post holder’s direct control
Please note the above criteria are essential. You require all of the above to be eligible for this role.
The following are desirable, but not essential:
• Experience at a senior level working for or with the Private sector within a relevant field, for example Construction, Facilities Management, Estates Management or delivery of Clinical Services
• Project management skills
• Experience of PFI or PPP projects
THE ROLE:
Your main task here is to build relationships at CEO and board level. We need a real self-starter, a “people person”, someone proactive and full of ideas, ambitious, with vision who can knock on doors and gain the trust of the client. Although your “client” here is the public sector, LIFT companies are autonomous limited companies with both private sector and public sector shareholders. Consequently you will have full financial management and P&L responsibilities. This is akin to a start-up and you will essentially be running your own business, albeit with vast supporting resources to call upon when you need them. LIFT companies own and maintain new or refurbished buildings for primary healthcare and leases the premises to PCTs, GPs, Local Authority Social Services, dentists, pharmacists, etc.
